I hope that everyone has recovered from The Grammy Awards…and Valentine’s Day. Now it is time to get back to new music.

One of my favorite shoegaze/dream pop bands is back. NY-based Asobi Seksu with its 5th studio CD, Fluorescence. The group’s previous work has been dreamy and ethereal…reminiscent of a mix between Cocteau Twins, The Sundays and Mazzy Star. This new release is a bit more amped up, incorporating more guitars and synthesizers. A nice CD, but established fans may be in for a bit of a surprise.

Mark Farina is back with the 7th volume of his Mushroom Jazz compilation series. The veteran house music dj/producer has secured a host of talented musicians, for Mushroom Jazz 7, from Andy Caldwell, Kissey Asplund and Charlie Tate (of King Kooba), to virtual newcomers Joshua Heath and Derek Dunbar. If chill, downtempo house music is your thing, make sure that you scoop this one up.

Other new music out this week from PJ Harvey, Bright Eyes, Cowboy Junkies, Dom, Drive-By Truckers, Godsville (feat. KRS-ONE), Elephant Man, Ginuwine, Hayes Carll, Telekinesis, Twilight Singers, Yuck, and The Dears.

Look for new music next week from Adele, Toro y Moi, and The Low Anthem.
