Let me start off by saying that I owe you an apology, dear reader. I’ve not shared news of one of this year’s better music releases with you for a couple of months now, but you should definitely know about it. MuthaWit’s men & women (la Revenge de Uncle Baldy) is such a dynamic recording. I love hearing new music that I can get excited about, music that makes me feel…something. And from beginning to end, I felt just that when listening to the latest from MuthaWit. 10 tracks of electrifying aural energy that does not disappoint. This album speaks to my soul. While I don’t think it necessary to categorize good music in a “genre box” of sorts, the primary elements of soulful rock (or ‘rock with soul’, whichever term suits you) are here and come together so nicely. I’m drawn to the rich vocals on “Waiting for My…”, the hard-driving guitar on “Wasted (Fill My House with Salt)”, and the understated, yet engaging drums on “Martha the Squatter”. All of the tracks come together as one varied, but unified work. With each listen, I hear something new and wonderful, which keeps me interested and coming back for more. Isn’t that what music should do? Do yourself a favor and check out this wonderful gem of an album. (Speaking of gems, make a special effort to sit and listen to the beautiful “When It’s Time to Go”. Chills.) Listen to snippets and purchase the album here.
