Now this could be an interesting concept. Are you wondering what to do with those CDs that are taking up space on your shelves? Do you want to get rid of the physical CD but still have access to the music? Well, it looks like you can do just that with Murfie.
Murfie is an online music “platform” that is set up for music fans to store their entire music collection at an offsite location (Murfie HQ) as well as buy and trade music with other Murfie users. For the CDs that you’d like to get rid of, you can mark them for trade via Murfie and they will be stored at until the trade has been made. When you purchase a CD on Murfie, you actually own the physical CD, but it remains at Murfie until you request that it be shipped to you. And for each physical CD that one purchases, the folks at Murfie will rip that album and make it available as a digital download.
Setting up your shop at Murfie seems to be easy enough. Request a mail-in kit and send your CD collection to Murfie. The team will in turn post your discs to your new account and the one that you price will get listed in your personal shop. You can also promote your shop by sharing your URL or by listing on any number of classified ad services. Browsing music at Murfie won’t cost you anything. The selection is updated each time a new user “sets up shop”, which keeps things fresh.
I don’t think that there is another business model quite like Murfie. I’m not sure that the concept is for everyone, but it is definitely worth a peek as it may just the right option for you.
