The 54th Annual Grammy Award show scored its largest audience in 28 years, with an estimated 40 million viewers tuned in to the telecast. This is the largest audience for the Grammy telecast since the record-breaking telecast of 1984 when Michael Jackson was awarded eight Grammys. While this time last week, the buzz was about tuning in to find out just how well Adele’s voice recovered from recent surgery and if she’d sweep her categories (yes, and yes), the conversation and tone took a decidedly somber turn with the death of singer Whitney Houston on February 11th…the day before the scheduled awards program. The untimely death of Whitney Houston no doubt prompted many to tune in for a probable tribute to her. Powerhouse vocalist Jennifer Hudson was called in to pay homage to one of her idols and she pulled it off beautifully. Her performance of Houston’s signature song “I Will Always Love You” was a fitting tribute indeed.
