And here’s the latest single from India, entitled “Estupida”.  Until next week…

New Release Tuesday – May 18, 2010

I’m so excited about the new music out today that I actually thought of doing cartwheels. (Those around me were not amused.)

New music out today from Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek (Revolutions Per Minute), LCD Soundsystem (This is Happening), Band of Horses (Infinite Arms), Mindi Abair (In Hi-Fi Stereo), David Bazan (Live at Electrical Audio), Pete Francis (Movie We Are In), Tracey Thorn (Love & Its Opposite), Bo Bice (3), Jamie Lidell (Compass), and Nas and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley (Distant Relatives).

Janelle Monae‘s much anticipated follow-up to her 2007 release Metropolis, Suite I: The Chase is so worth the wait…and a pleasant surprise.  As someone who has been following Monae for years, I was concerned that this eclectic songstress would be stifled on The ArchAndroid, given that this is her first release on the Bad Boy label.  She just doesn’t “fit” with the roster of artists.  I could not have been more wrong.  This CD is incredible.  It defies genre…it is just great music.  Innovative with solid production.  And it doesn’t hurt that Janelle Monae can put it down vocally.  Boy, can she sing.  She enlists the help of a few fellow artists (Big Boi, Of Montreal, Saul Williams, Deep Cotton), but make no mistake, it is all Janelle Monae at her finest.

And last, but far from least, is the latest release from The Black Keys. Oh, how I love The Black Keys.  Brothers is the duo’s latest release on Nonesuch Records and their psychedelic-blues tinged sound is a sonic treat.  Taking a trip down to Muscle Shoals has truly paid off, because the duo has effectively tapped into a touch of that down home Alabama blues sound that propelled The Black Keys into the indie music spotlight.  True fans will love getting reacquainted with the band.  New fans will be blown away.

New Music Tuesday – April 6, 2010

So much new music out today that I may run out of space.

For me, the most eagerly anticipated release of the day has to be the collaboration between David Byrne and Fatboy Slim.  These two talented musicians have created a tribute album to former First Lady of Philippines (and shoe connoisseur) Imelda MarcosHere Lies Love is a 22-song double CD with a host of great guest vocalists:  Sharon Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, Camille, Alice Russell, Santigold, and many others.  “Deluxe” purchases (either CD or digital) will come with 12o-page book/booklet and 6 videos featuring songs from the album cut to archival footage of Imelda Marcos life in the Philippines.  Definitely worth a listen.

I’m really enjoying the latest from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. I Learned The Hard Way is the latest and this one is not to be missed.

Also out this week the latest from Jakob Dylan, John Butler Trio, Cary Brothers, Martin Sexton, Solomon Burke, Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3, The BoDeans, Angelique Kidjo, Black Prairie, Laura Marling, Dr. Dog, Melissa Auf Der Mar, Slash, Murder By Death, Jonsi, Codeine Velvet Club, Peter Wolf, Ja Prawn, and Vivian Green.

New Music Tuesday – March 30, 2010

There is so much great new music today that I can’t stand it!

Let’s get things started with the highly anticipated fifth studio release from Erykah BaduNew Amerykah, Pt. 2: Return of the Ankh has been generating a great deal of buzz recently, in part because of the controversial video for “Window Seat“.  However, controversy aside, this album is well worth the hype, so much so that this is probably her best work since Mama’s Gun.  (Speaking of which, “Out My Mind, Just In Time” is this year’s “Green Eyes“.  Mark my word.)

Pixies front man Black Francis is also out with a new one today entitled Nonstoperotik. (pronounced ‘non-stop-erotik’…get it?) Great album.  Standouts include “Six Legged Man”, “Cinema Star”, and the title track.

Also look for new music this week from Gretchen Wilson, E-40, Turin Brakes, Dum Dum Girls, Joan Armatrading, The Living Sisters, Paper Tongues, Alan Jackson, Usher, and Angus & Julia Stone. Here’s the latest from Angus & Julia…”Black Crow”.  Enjoy.  Until next week.
